Hormonal changes in strength training during the menstrual cycle: a systematic review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Introduction: During the menstrual cycle, women are exposed to continual variations in serum concentrations of various female sex steroid hormones. The fluctuations main hormones, estrogen, progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, essential for regulating ovulatory cycle patterns. In this sense, it is speculated that strength training can stimulate signaling pathways hormones regulate patterns different phases cycle. Objective: To analyze hormonal changes performance experienced undergoing training. Methods: A systematic review was carried out following PRISMA recommendations. terms “Strength Training”, “Resistance Exercise” “Menstrual Cycle” were searched Medline (PubMed), Virtual Health Library (VHL) ScienceDirect databases. Experimental studies evaluated during trained resistance exercise included. Results: From a total 592 documents, six met inclusion criteria. Interventions included ranged from 2 140 days. protocols demonstrated intervention with provides testosterone, estradiol ammonia follicular luteal phase. Conclusion: investigated Strength Training induced increases, phase

The influence of hormonal changes during menstrual cycle on serum adiponectin concentrations in healthy women.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived hormone involved in the regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Its concentrations are decreased in patients with obesity, type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis and are higher in females than in males. Gender differences of adiponectin levels raise the possibility that sex hormones directly regulate its serum concentrations, which may in turn influence...

Mammographic density changes during the menstrual cycle.

The ability to detect small tumors is impaired in dense mammograms. It has been suggested that the sensitivity of mammograms could be lower in mammograms obtained during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. We examined the change in mammographic density from the follicular to the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle in 11 women. Although the average increase in densities was quite small (1.2...

Changes in peak expiratory flow and respiratory strength during the menstrual cycle.

This study evaluated the spirometry and respiratory static pressures in 17 young women, twice a week for three successive ovulatory menstrual cycles to determine if such variables changed across the menstrual, follicular, periovulatory, early-to-mid luteal and late luteal phases. The factors phases of menstrual cycle and individual cycles had no significant effect on the spirometry variables ex...

Modeling Hormonal Control of the Menstrual Cycle

This study presents a strategy for developing a mathematical model describing the concentrations of five hormones important for regulation and maintenance of the menstrual cycle. Models which correctly predict the serum levels of ovarian and pituitary hormones may assist the experimentalist by indicating directions of investigation. In addition, model simulations may be helpful for evaluating t...
